Dr. Allen Christo

Dr. Allen Christo is the owner and sole practitioner of Christo Veterinary Services. A graduate of the University of Arizona in 1982 with a bachelors in Animal Health Science he went on to receive his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 1987.

Dr. Christo grew up in Bisbee where he was active in Boy Scouts and in his church. After graduating Bisbee High School in 1970 he attended Northern Arizona University for a few semesters, worked as an electrician in residential construction, then underground in Bisbee, and finally in heavy construction. He achieved his journeyman electrician status in 1976 and at that point decided to resume his studies. Dr. Christo confesses, “There’s nothing like a construction site to teach you the value of an education.”

As a student at the U of A he worked part time at a lab animal facility on campus eventually becoming the facilities’ supervisor. After graduating he worked briefly at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona and was working as a keeper at the Reid Park Zoo when he was admitted into veterinary school.

During the summer breaks in vet school he worked at the copper smelter in Morenci and for the U of A School of Medicine in their Division of Animal Resources.

Upon receiving his doctorate Dr. Christo began working in Phoenix in both corporate and private practices. During his last two years in the Phoenix area, he worked as a clinician in a very busy emergency service where he “loved the work, hated the schedule.” In 1993, Dr. Christo and his family returned to Tucson where he worked in private practice before striking out on his own as a relief vet in local hospitals, and as a surgeon in spay/neuter clinics and emergency medicine shifts.

Returning in 1996 to private practice he was the primary clinician at Acoma Animal Clinic until 2002 when he began Christo Veterinary Services. He continued to work part time at both Animal Care Center of Green Valley and at the Grant Road Small Animal Hospital while he continued to expand his house call practice. In 2008 he elected to devote himself full time to his own practice.

Dr. Christo’s professional interests are in internal medicine, dermatology, dentistry, and herbal and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

Dr. Christo has a daughter and two sons, all currently in college. His personal interests include cooking, gardening and videos.
